Tags:, , , , .

The old “Dinner-and-a-Movie” date is lovely idea for an anniversary night out. But don’t be surprised if your partner baulks at the idea of this typical anniversary celebration.

The dinner-and-movie date has become almost cliched - all too common.

And the typical anniversary gifts - while lovely - are all too common too.

And your anniversary is a time to make your partner feel special. To remind them of the good times you’ve had together.

Why not make your partner feel special in a creative, energetic way that they will think back on for years to come?

Here are 7 of the Best Anniversary Idea Winners that are sure to show your partner your love:

1) The Romantic Night-Time Picnic Anniversary Idea

Dressing warm, pack a picnic basket of your love’s favorite foods, a blanket, and (if you can) a telescope into the trunk of your car - and head out somewhere secluded.

Stare at the stars, or watch the view from your favorite lookout while you enjoy each others company - and the food that you have prepared.

Men - your wife will tell all her friends about the romantic anniversary night that you shared!

2) The Anniversary Day Idea

This is the perfect way to start (or end) your anniversary day - particularly for an active couple.

Whisk your partner away on the day of your anniversary to a nearby lookout - and watch the sun rise or set.

This way, you can celebrate the dawning (or setting) of the day you committed your love to each other.

It doesn’t take much time to prepare, but your partner will love it!

3) The Theatre Anniversary Idea

It’s something that practically everyone says they want to do - but very few people get around to doing it… Going to the theatre.

It’s a twist on the old dinner-and-a-movie theme, but the extra effort will go a long way!

4) The Bait-And-Switch Anniversary Idea

Tell your partner about the [somewhat disappointing] night you have prepared. Something basic, nothing too interesting…

…But pack their favorite dress or suit in the car - and instead head to a trendy cocktail bar, restaurant, or somewhere else flashy.

5) The Trip Down Memory Lane Anniversary Idea

What better time than an anniversary to celebrate the years you have spent together?

This is a fantastic way to celebrate winter anniversaries..

Dust off the old photo albums, rug up warm, pour some hot cocoa, and enjoy talking about your memories around your favorite photos.

6) The Surprise-Around-Every-Corner Anniversary Idea

Enlist the help of your partner’s friends to make this anniversary special…

Prepare a “treasure hunt” for your partner - collecting clues from each friend in little envelopes before joining you for dinner at a restaurant.

Little envelopes with puzzle pieces - each showing a small piece of the instructions on where to go - helps to make this anniversary idea exciting!

7) The Special Trip Anniversary Idea

Pack up the car, send the kids to the in-laws, and head out on the road for an overnight trip to a special location.

A cottage bed-and-breakfast is a big hit!

Anniversary Gift Ideas

Every anniversary in a couple’s life is a symbolic marker of commitment, adventure and love. With each passing year, the bond strengthens, fortified by all the shared experiences a year can carry. Anniversaries are a time to let your spouse know that he or she is cherished. And, they are a time to present an anniversary gift that reflects love, creativity and spirit.

Before humans had a way of keeping time, no one paid much attention to the anniversary of important events, such as birthdays. Only when ancient peoples began taking notice of the moon’s cycles, did they pay attention to the changing seasons and the pattern that repeated itself over and over. Eventually, the first calendars were formulated in order to mark time changes and other special days. From this system tracking came the ability to celebrate birthdays and other significant anniversaries the same day each year.

Anniversary celebrations began in medieval times when people celebrated 25 and 50 years of marriage. A husband would crown his wife with a wreath of silver for 25 years and of gold for 50.

For centuries, couples have observed wedding anniversaries as a special time to reflect upon their marriage and remember the vows they made to one another. Despite the existence of anniversaries long ago, there aren’t any long-standing traditions or strict rules concerning the way anniversaries should or should not be celebrated.

The wedding anniversary gift chosen is usually based on the number of years a couple has been married. The longer the number of years past since the wedding couple has been married, the more precious the material (symbol) associated with it. Traditional and modern gift ideas help the invited guests in choosing the appropriate gifts for a wedding anniversary, as well as, it may help the hosts choose an appropriate party theme for the couple’s wedding anniversary.

It is now generally agreed that there are particular traditional symbols for wedding anniversaries. Over the periods of time - some of these symbols have changed but as a rough guide take a look at the table below, which lists the most popular anniversaries and their traditional gift symbols.

1st: paper, clocks, plastic, gold jewelry.

25th: silver, sterling silver

Finding an anniversary gift for a wife can be a fairly easy process because as long as a husband is aware of his wife’s interests, he has a wide selection of gifts he can choose from.

Making the search for anniversary gifts for men is a challenge. One of the most common pieces of advice that you can find on web sites that provide gift ideas is to buy gifts that follow tradition: For every milestone regarding to the number of years you are together, there are appropriate gifts for each. For men, this means that wives should get their husbands a gift that is made out of paper on their first year anniversary, which can come in the form of personalized stationary that he can use in his work. For the second year, women are advised to get their husbands anything made out of cotton, which includes shirts, pillows, or other cotton. On the third year, women are then advised to buy their husbands leather products, which include shoes, belts, or a leather suitcase. As for other milestones, like the 25th or the 50th wedding anniversary, women are advised to give their husbands gifts that are made out of silver and gold, respectively.

Typically, couples observe earlier wedding anniversaries informally, making their own plans to celebrate alone over dinner, take a weekend getaway, or simply exchange small gifts. As the number of years together increases, however, the occasion becomes more and more significant.

Anniversary present ideas.. please help! ?

Need to buy my boyfriend an anniversary present. Want to buy something meaningful but don’t really know what to get. He’s not into rings or bracelets for men etc…

Any ideas would be much appreciated!!!
Forgot to mention something important.. we have been dating for a year now…

You should go with something sweet instead of just buying anything!! Honestly, it mostly depends on stuff that you guys both like or inside jokes that you have!! and 1 year is a really big thing!!
I’ve been with my bf for a few months now, and I did different things for every month…they may help you! this is what I’ve done so far:

1st month–He loves comic books, so I got one of my realllly artistic friends to draw a comic of how he had asked me out :)
2nd month–I was away in England for 3 weeks during this month, so I got him an England frame with a picture of us in it and wrote on the back “the reason im giving you a picture of us in an england frame is because the whole time there i wished i was with you instead!”
3rd month–I gave him a collage of pictures/cute icons of us and a pair of boxers from Express (It still meant something to him, because we’re both extremely prude–I wrote on a little card with it “i soo cant wait to see you in these!, then wrote on the inside of it, “calm down baby, im just kidding…ew!!! ;)”
4th month–I got him a cake made from a nice bakery with “Nida <3’s Sam. You are my world! I can’t explain in words how much you mean to me, so I’ll just use 3…I LOVE YOU!”, a CD full of songs that remind me of him…(the cd case was cute as hell too, with pics of us allll over it–and a reason for each song thats in there and why exactly it reminds me of him), and love coupons (such as free kiss in the rain, free bubble bath for us, free dinner made by me, free picnic for the two of us…etc)!
Hopefully for our next months:
5th month–A card deck holepunched with 2 rings, then with 2 cards used as the cover/back and “50 things I love about him, one on each card–10 for each month we’ve been together so far”
6th month–A scavenger hunt with stops at places that mean something to us such as the first place we kissed, our first date, first place he asked me out, first place he supposedly “fell in love” with me,etc. and at each and every stop a certain souvenir to be found and card to lead to the next stop. On the 6th stop, I’ll be waiting for him and we can enjoy the anniversary together!
Valentine’s day–A beautiful dinner, (paid by me, even though I’m the girl in the relationship.) and a ring that has an engravement inside that says “Nida N Sam 071308 - forever”
1 year anniversary– A sort of scrapbooking of our relationship for the past year, such as ticket stubs of things we went to together and little “nothings” that mean something to the both of us.

Also, if he like’s sports, like maybe soccer or something, you may want to get a soccerball and write on each white part of it one thing you love about him and present him with that.

There’s ALOT of cute/sweet things you can do for him…it just takes times to think about some of it, lemme know how it goes or what you end up deciding! i hope i helped some!
and thats it for now=).

The Art of Gift Giving

Gift giving has been a practice that has a place within the earliest recollection of human interaction. Throughout history, gifts or presents have been transferred from one to another in the form of goods, money, and even intangible items that one cannot touch, smell, or see, but feel in their heart, such as compassion or friendship. For some, the act of gift giving was rewarded with some form of power, social standing, and sometimes even a wife. Others have been purely satisfied with doing something nice for another and not receiving a thing in return.

One of the first memories of gift giving also shows a lesson in life, love, and sacrifice. Even in the book of Genesis, Cain and Abel gave gifts to God. Eventually, this tale would lead to one of the most known passages in the Bible regarding jealousy and murder. As the story goes, the gardener Cain gave fruit as a gift to God, while his brother, Abel offered the very best lamb from his flock. God was quite pleased with Abel’s gift, but not as impressed with Cain’s gesture. Since Abel chose to bestow a gift he valued for himself, God greatly appreciated the sacrifice. The same viewpoint on gift giving stands today.

For instance, if you took the time to travel many miles to a florist that produced the same bouquet of flowers for your parent’s wedding anniversary, this gift would mean much more to them than if you took the time to pick roses from the backyard. While the bouquet of flowers from the florist may look beautiful and smell just as sweet, the parents are probably more pleased by the sacrifice of driving such a distance to pay tribute to their anniversary with an unforgettable memory.

Sometimes, there are moments that do not call for the giving of gifts, but require a delicate, personal approach to the circumstances. For instance, when a friend is going through a divorce, they most likely would appreciate face-to-face comfort than receiving a gift in the mail from a long-distance friend. When this is not possible, there are still plenty of unique gift baskets on the market that can bring a smile to the most downtrodden individual.

For some, spending money on a gift may put a strain on their finances, but there are many great gifts that cost nothing at all or only require a few bucks. There are also a lot of gift givers who will accompany unique gift baskets and flowers with a present that took thousands of dollars to pull off. The average cost of a gift is hard to determine. The range really involves personal preferences and budget limitations. Many individuals have also found great gift savings through making purchases on the Internet.

For those trying to save a little money, the concept of re-gifting has been used. This usually occurs when one receives a gift that is not necessarily needed or wanted. It could be a silver serving dish that you already have or an unattractive sweater that you don’t have the heart to ask for an exchange receipt. In any case, you put the gift to good use by delivering it to someone else on a special occasion or holiday. If you make this a regular process, it is important to remember whom you received the original gift from (people have been known to re-gift back to the person who gave them the present in the first place).

Why Give a Gift?

Gifts satisfy an assortment of needs and beliefs. They are used to express a wide range of feelings, such as love, friendship, and gratitude. Gift giving may serve as a form of charity, as well as shows support (as seen in political arenas). Gifts also provide a way for people to celebrate a wealth of special occasions, customs, traditions, and holidays. Below, you will find some of the most important events that bring about the outpouring of gifts:

Birthdays

Gifts play an important role in celebrating the one day of the year you call your very own. The receipt of gifts and cards, as well as unique gift baskets and flowers for the ladies are common ways to make this personal holiday even more special. As one gets older, the gift giving seems to lessen, but the act is still a frequent occurrence for individuals of all ages.

Valentine’s Day

This romantic day for sweethearts often calls for the exchange of pink teddy bears, syrupy greeting cards, unique gift baskets filled with chocolates and scented candles, as well as colorful bouquets of flowers, such as bright red roses.

Christmas

Although most of the credit goes to Santa Claus for the gift giving that occurs during this holiday season, plenty of people have delivered unique flower bouquets of poinsettias, and selected beautifully decorated unique gift baskets filled with peppermint-flavored treats, red and green accented delights, and jingle bells.

Wedding

After attending the exchange of wedding vows, guests wine and dine at a ceremony where they bring gifts for the newly married couple. While monetary gifts serve as a tradition in many cultural circles, physical gifts, such as household goods and personal mementos are quite common.

When it comes time to give a gift, there are many other occasions that call for this type of exchange. People all over the globe mark their calendars each year to make sure they don’t miss gift-giving occasions, including baby showers, anniversaries, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, graduation, and housewarming get-togethers. As gift ideas wear thin, you can always turn to the perfect unique gift basket or colorful bouquet of flowers to give family and friends. For all your gift giving needs go to giftbaskets-flowers

Shopping For Anniversary Gifts - Lost

What could it be that a seemingly simple task like finding a meaningful anniversary gift with just a hint of romance can render even the strongest of men helpless? When it comes to shopping for a romantic gift, though well intentioned, most men are doomed for failure. Maybe it’s because we think on the wrong side of our brains, or it could be that we are from Mars has something to do with it. It, being the inability to perform a simple task such as purchasing an appropriately romantic gift for anniversaries, birthdays etc

Man has been cursed with procrastination since the dawn of gift shopping. I would argue though that it is not so much procrastination as it is fear. Yes fear, a deep seeded fear of experiencing yet another gift shopping experience that will most likely end in failure.

Another factor that could be contributing to the problem is the way that most men instinctively shop whether it is online or in a bricks and mortar store. The way most men shop is, get in – get what you want – and get out. Long before most men pull into the parking lot of a store, they know what they’re after or have at least a general idea of what they’re going to purchase. As soon as a man steps out of the car, an internal clock starts to tic, in his mind he is on a mission, no time to waste, just locate the perfect romantic present and get out of there with his manhood intact.

Although shopping online can be much easier for a man shopping for romantic gifts, there are two factors that can doom this method also,

1. Last minute shopping and shipping times do not mix and can make shopping online impractical. We have to overcome the desire to put off till tomorrow what should have been done yesterday.

2. Online or off, it does not matter, if you’re clueless as to what constitutes a romantic gift. Just because it’s easier to look for does not mean we’ll recognize a romantic anniversary gift when we see one.

There is hope though, men are capable of buying romantic gifts if someone shows us what is romantic and why. Once armed with this valuable intelligence, then it’s just a matter of locating the target and completing our mission. Now it would be impossible to cover all of the complexities of what makes for a romantic gift in the limited space of this article. But we can cover a few of the basics the will dramatically increase your odds of success.

1. You can show your love on most occasions without having to give an outrageously expensive gift; all you need to do is just show that you put a little thought into it. This is a prerequisite for romantic gifts; they must show that you put at least a moderate amount of thought into matching the gift with the recipient’s needs, wants, desires or personality.

2. Symbolic gifts are romantic when presented correctly. Almost everyone is aware that one red rose in full bloom means “I Love You”, but there are so many more like, red and white roses together in a bouquet mean unity. Two roses with the stems taped together into one stem are symbolic of an engagement. Just do a little research and find something appropriate for your occasion, then when presenting your token of love and romance, let the recipient know of the symbolic gesture with an attached card.

3. Following the traditional anniversary gift list when shopping for anniversary gifts, is a sure way to romance. Though it will not give specific suggestions, the traditional list will only state the material that the gift should be made of, like cotton for the second and wood for the fifth. After finding a romantic gift made of the material listed for the anniversary you’re celebrating, try including a love note or poem. Let the recipient know that you followed the traditional anniversary gift list. There is nothing quite as romantic as a spouse who uses this list each year in their search for the perfect romantic gift.

Need a bronze gift idea for wedding anniversary?

It's my 8th wedding anniversary. The traditional gifts for this year are bronze, ceramic pottery, linen, and lace.

I am going to get my hubby a small gift from each category, but I can't find anything bronze.

My husband wears jeans and boots to work and is in to fishing and hunting.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I only have 2 days left!!

What about a bronze sculpture? Like a nice piece of art.

What is a good first anniversary gift idea for a man? I love my husband with all of my heart but we have pretty much everything. I want to give him something meaningful not just junk. Any ideas?

How about something that is useful - not junk - but can be personalized with a special message about how much you love him?

Here is a link to a site with lots of unique gifts - and most they will embroider or engrave with a message you specify. THey have things like watches, cufflinks, icebuckets, barware, robes, blankets, wallets, wooden plaques and more. They even have underwear for men & women that they will personalize.

Does anyone have any homemade anniversary gift ideas?

My girlfriend and I have been together for a year next month.
I got her a present, but I really want to make her something too.
Probably not food since we’re going out to eat.
What do you think?

It's not homemade in the sense that you're making something, but it sure is free and simple. Buy one of those mini pocket dictionaries and highlight all the words that are meaningful to you and your significant other. We girls love sentimental stuff like that!
